Two New E-booklets Launched at Union Conference in Cape Town

05/11/07 - TBSP has launched two new self-help E-booklets at the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (IUATLD) conference in Cape Town. The booklets have been developed in association with the global Stop TB Partnership's ACSM working group. The first booklet is called "TB Tips: Advice for People with Tuberculosis" and the second is called "Overcoming TB: A Handbook for Patients". Both booklets are available FREE of charge to download as PDFs from the TBSP website.

Paul Thorn, who wrote both booklets said; "it is one of the aims of TBSP to produce relevant self-help and informative publications that are 'really useful' to people with TB/MDR-TB. Patient literature written by health care professionals or those that haven't experienced TB/MDR-TB themselves sometimes overlook the true reality of the illness. Our publications are based on the firsthand experience of patients and are personal in their approach."

"TB Tips: Advice for People with Tuberculosis" is a quick reference guide for patients. It is based on the popular tips that originally appeared in the first edition of "The Tuberculosis Survival Handbook". There is also a print version in circulation.

"Overcoming TB: A Handbook for Patients" examines coping with the TB treatment journey. There are two versions. A generic version that is quite broad in it's approach is now available in English. It is hoped that it shall be translated into five other UN languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) in the near future. The second version was written so that it can be especially adapted to be made country specific, reflecting a less generic and more accurate portrayal of the TB experience from country to country. Stop TB Canada has been working on a Canadian version that will be published shortly, other countries have expressed an interest in doing the same.
